is contractor licensing manatory in nj?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: home improvement contractor

i am startng a small construction/remodeling business. i have the licence application on its way to me (it should be ast my house by monday)…i am going to apply for it anyways, but i am just wondering if it is mandatoy for a home improvement/remodeler to have a license??

Although I am out of state I am answering…….This is my pet pieve subject and I am one of very few that stand for this. I am not licensed in my state but I can do work legally if the project is less than thirty thousand. I hear over and over again a bout the licensed contractor is better. Do you think that when you have a piece of paper in your hand that makes your skills improve. OK liability. I write more thurough contracts than most remodeler contractors with license. The contract is what binds you to the work. Still not satisfied….Get this…. I took the test and passed, and held a commercial contractors licensed in this state. I simply did not renew the license. So how did my abilites change when the license expired? Further more, The licensed contractor in not null and void of legal contradictions, and the courts see their share of law suits.
I would be certain that the state on NJ will be the governing body for general contractor license. Sometimes you got to Google.
And Good Luck

Varies by townships. Having the license saves you the aggravation of winning a job in a town that does require it. I would hire you over a contractor that was not licensed, even if your bid was higher
